Sensitive Skin: How to Deal With It

sensitive skin

Do you have sensitive skin? Does your skin easily become red and itchy when exposed to dust, new soaps, pollen, cold temperatures or when scratched? If you have experienced this a lot of times, you may have sensitive skin.

So what must you do for your sensitive skin?

  • Select makeup, sunscreens and moisturizers that are hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free.
  • Minimize the quantity of products you apply on your face.
  • Never over-wash your face (i.e. more than twice a day).
  • Never use exfoliants
  • Use an astringent on oily areas only, but stop if redness occurs.
  • Use a mild, soap-free cleanser.
  • Purchase oil-free products when choosing make-up, especially foundation and blusher. A water-based and non-comedogenic (non-pore clogging) make up is the best choice. You can also use oil-absorbing foundations that help keep oil off the face.
  • Use a day-to-day sunscreen that is not oil-based, if possible, a gel, as it’s less greasy.
  • Be sure to use at least SPF of 15.
  • Use a cleanser with salicylic acid to help exfoliate pores if you have breakouts. Salicylic acid in moisturisers can also be helpful.

Exfoliants: What Are They For?

To renew skin and sweep away dead skin cells, a skin exfoliant must be used at least twice a week. There are exfoliants for different types of skin and many of these great exfoliants can be made in the comforts of your own home!

Breakfast Skin Exfoliants

Oatmeal is not just a delicious and nutritious breakfast meal but is also used as a treat for your skin. It is a mild exfoliant that also hydrates. For ease, you can utilize a pack of instant oatmeal as long as it doesn’t have any additional flavorings or chemicals.

It should be entirely natural if you are creating your own skin care products. Egg white is another breakfast food that’s great for your skin. It’s a wonderful exfoliating mask for dry or sensitive skin. Just combine one beaten egg white, an ounce of ground almonds, and a teaspoon of honey. Smoothly whip them all together, put on for about 15 minutes, and then rinse off.

If you want to have a little excitement for your morning glow, try this one. Before you throw coffee grounds onto the compost pile, combine a quarter-cup of grounds with egg white and massage it on your face. From the outside, caffeine stimulates the skin just as it stimulates you when you drink it. Not only is coffee a great exfoliant, it will decrease your pores and tone your skin. If you have dry skin, follow up this regimen with a nice moisturizer.

A Fruity Skin Exfoliant

Fruits are packed with vitamins and minerals that are known to bring good nutritious effects on your body. They also are good for your skin so it’s no surprise that many cosmetics are using fruit-based ingredients. You can create a magnificent exfoliant on your own using different fruits – approximately all of them will not only strip away your dull flakes, but also make your skin hydrate, making it smooth and silky.

One of the best examples is papaya. If you’re in a rush, you can just crush up raw papaya, apply it onto your skin for 15 minutes and then rinse it off.

You can create an excellent exfoliating fruit mask which consists of papaya and pineapple extracts. These extracts are full of vitamin C which gives rise to fresh, good-looking skin. The extracts also improve collagen. You can also add a tablespoon of organic honey and oatmeal into this mixture. Spread on this exfoliant onto slightly damp skin using mild, circular motions. For about five minutes, leave it on and then gently rinse it off. Follow it with a light moisturizer to have super-radiant skin.

More Sweets for Your Skin

Honey is not just also for bees and bears; it can also be perfect for your face. Honey is packed with antioxidants and works to bring balance, smoothness, and even lighter skin. For a wonderful recipe for skin exfoliant, combine a teaspoonful of sugar with a half-teaspoon of honey and a teaspoonful of plain yogurt, which has natural AHAs and works as a skin moisturizer and lightener. Apply over your face and leave it on for ten minutes. Add three to six crushed aspirin tablets if you have acne. For extra vitamin C and blemish-fighting, you can also add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice.

Tips for Healthy Exfoliation

It is significant to be gentle with your own facial skin. Even if it is resilient and oily, you don’t want to rub it when exfoliating. This will result to loosen the skin and eventually cause wrinkles. No matter how much dead skin you want to get rid of, mild circular massage will take it off and leave you looking fresh.
Do not rinse with hot water, as it is drying. You can use cold or lukewarm water. Also when rinsing, avoid using a washcloth. Even the fluffiest cloth can rub, that may cause extra exfoliation, which can irritate your skin at this subtle stage.
Even though you may want to refresh your skin before you start your day, it’s in fact best to exfoliate at night and give your skin the chance to replenish itself while you are sleeping. And when you wake up, you will see yourself glowing.
